Apart from the many physical benefits, one of the most valuable benefits is enabling a person to manage stress. Stress can reveal itself in the physical body in many ways, from headaches, back pain, insomnia, addiction etc... Becoming aware that our physical pain could stem from emotional pain and stress is a fundamental key to healing.
a little piece of me...
I started my Yoga journey at 33 years old when I was at a stage in my life where I had tried all the pharmaceuticals, physiotherapy, therapy and professional advice but nothing was working for my mind and body. I even went as far as self medicating which manifested the addiction within me, all in aid of searching for a cure to my suffering.
I had unidentified chronic pain since I was in my teens which was really frustrating, upsetting and confusing. I fractured my Coccyx at 29 turning my whole life as I knew it upside down, I lost my identity and slipped into a very dark place. I was also diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, PTSD, Bipolar, Coccydinia, Carpal Tunnel and Arthritis. Deep down I didn't agree with some of the diagnosis' and had a gut feeling my pain was linked to traumatic events and emotional pain. The list of label's was growing rapidly, I started to feel like my life was over! I had to do something before it was too late, thankfully that something was Yoga!
I'm not going to pretend that I fell gracefully into Yoga, it came through continued practice and perseverance. Something inside me knew this was the path for me, it just took a while for the rest of me to catch up. The persistence paid off, it is the best decision I have ever made.
I was not your typical yoga student all bendy and flexible, I also had a lot of physical limitations that left me feeling very insecure and less than others in group classes. I felt extremely vulnerable and emotional, this gave me extreme difficulties in closing my eyes, relaxing and letting go. Therefore, when the meditation would start at the end of the class, I would make my swift exit.
At the end of the class I was always left with the same questions... "Why wasn't Yoga working for me?", "Why is working for everyone else?", "Why can’t I lay there and feel all zen like everyone else?".
What I didn’t know, was that I had stored up so much pain, trauma and stress in my body that it was going to take a little longer to find the tranquility, trust and confidence on my mat. I just had to believe in the process and keep on going!
Luckily, I had a beautiful teacher who recognised my struggles. Annabelle would take the time to speak with me after class, opening up about her past struggles. Through her openness I identified many similarities, I finally felt like I was not alone anymore. Everything I was struggling with was quite common and there were lots of people like me fighting similar battles. I was told, it was going to be a bumpy road. However, if I persisted it would lead me down a beautiful path. Finally I found hope and my future filled me with excitement which I hadn't felt for a long time.
After a year of irregular practice I started to notice many improvements in my physical and mental health. Instead of lying on the sofa everyday in pain, struggling with depression I started to feel positive and beginning to live my life again. Excited and enthused with these results, I wondered how I would feel with regular practice and gained a deeper knowledge of Yoga. I took the first step by attending a Yoga Teacher Training Course with Maggie Lieven at Spirit of Yoga in Andalucia, Spain. After completing my 200HR I went on to complete the Yoga Therapy 100HR. During the course I realised that I had a strong urge to help people just like myself. I want to share the valuable gift of Yoga that I have been blessed with.

I first met Danielle on a detox retreat on the Island of Gozo where she was the resident yoga instructor. By the second day, even as an absolute beginner, the twice daily yoga sessions became my favourite part of the retreat. Danielle is a fantastic yoga teacher, since she has not only the technical ability, but a patient and kind nature. She encouraged me to make progress, which I did, daily. The yoga-nidra sessions were relaxed and healing. The more I got to know Danielle, the more I loved her spirit, her dedication to helping others, and her absolute love of yoga and the great outdoors. Danielle is an absolute pleasure to be around, and I'd highly recommend Danielle, and her yoga teachings, to everyone of any ability. She is good for your soul!
Danielle is a wonderful teacher who shows lots of compassion towards her students. it was wonderful to have danielle teach at amchara gozo retreat centre. she is a very dedicated teacher who gives a lot of thought and detail to her lesson plans to ensure she delivers a teaching style to suit all individual needs and abilities. danielle is very aware that each individual is on their own personal journey in their yoga practice and she does her utmost to challenge students whilst being considerate and sensitive to personal boundaries. i would highly recommend danielle to anyone who is new to yoga or who is already experienced with their practice.

Danielle's yoga is fun, down to earth and just what my body and mind needed. I really appreciated the way she made me feel comfortable in my own body and being a beginner in the yoga scene. I feel privileged to have met Danielle during a yoga retreat on Gozo. Danielle joined the company at a difficult time, the previous yoga teacher having left at very short notice. Despite being relatively recently qualified at the time she worked hard to look after a diverse group of clients, myself included, whose yoga experience differed. Despite the challenging environment I spent an enjoyable week with Danielle and my practice still includes a routine that she shared with us.

This year we have tasted a new treat, yoga classes three times a week with Danielle. The classes are pitched at a range of levels and experience, even including my wife and me who, not far short of 80 years old, are trying yoga for the first time (at home in the UK we are regulars at Pilates classes). Danielle is an endlessly patient and gentle teacher, who is always ready with a constructive alternative when we find we have struck a roadblock (which happens sometimes). Classes are inexpensive and open not only to local residents (permanent or holidaymakers) like us but also to people staying at the hotel. We know we shall never catch up with the younger classmates who have been practising yoga for a long time, but we do our best, and that's the inspiring message which closes every yoga session

A Yoga Therapy Consultation is different to your regular Yoga class as it will be an individualized approach to suit your needs, abilities and take into account your current lifestyle and commitments.
You will begin the process by completing a questionnaire detailing your health history, current situation, concerns, goals and intentions. Following this we will have an initial consultation where I will assess your conditions, mobility, flexibility, posture and breathing patterns. In the follow up sessions we will work with breath, movement, alignment and awareness to experience deep relaxation and healing. You will be given a personalised home plan, which will include your assessment results, tools, techniques and class plan.
This package is designed to help you understand how to manage your body and mind better. Results are that you will become a healthier, stronger, happier version of you. If you have the desire and willingness to help yourself and make some changes, anything is possible.
